JUDICIAL BRANCH EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES - ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE ILLINOIS COURTS - Web Developer

SALARY: $42,175 (fillable application requires Adobe Reader or Acrobat)

HOURS OF WORK: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Assistant Director, JMIS  

The AOIC’s JMIS division is seeking a Web Developer with an eye for design and the ability to create effective websites and content pages. The Web Developer works in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment with high visibility in publishing content, maintaining the Illinois Supreme Court’s website, and creating new event-based websites. Assignments require coordination with co-workers, communication with judicial offices and stakeholders, and the timely and accurate preparation and posting of documents and content.       

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  Web Developers review, prepare, and generate complex digital documents and e-books. Responsibilities also include the design of new web sites/pages, the integration and use of third party Internet services such as AWS, and the application of ever-changing development and design trends.

FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Maintain Supreme Court's website(s).
  • Timely posting of documents and content used by judicial stakeholders, media, and visitors, who rely on the website for announcement and notifications.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new and existing technologies and techniques that promote a professional website, including the analysis of trends and usage statistics.
  • Advise on the availability and use of third party Internet services and provide technical authority for web development techniques, industry standards, and best practices for web sites and related services.
  • Follow defined procedures and use thorough testing discipline with strong attention to detail to ensure website content is current, accurate and reliable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:  A Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology,  Computer Science, or a related field of study and a minimum of four years hands-on experience in website design/development, creation and use of digital multimedia, and the creation of digital documents and online forms is preferred. Additional relevant work experience may be substituted for the degree.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • The ability to think critically and solve complex issues.
  • Strong project and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient in and knowledgeable of numerous web development tools including, HTML/HTML5, JavaScript/JQuery, .Net, AJAX, Adobe Flash, Dreamweaver, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Photoshop, Illustrator, and content management systems. 
  • Experience developing and maintaining content sites using Wiki and Sway for effective use throughout an organization.  
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office productivity software, including Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience in designing/developing mobile applications is preferred (Swift, xCode).
  • Experience in and knowledge of content management systems. 
  • Experience and ability to create or edit video content, digital images, photos, and 'stories.'
  • Excellent writing skills are necessary to review and create accurate content. 
  • Strong knowledge of computers, accessories, browsers and browser settings.
  • Knowledge of folder structures and file naming techniques.
  • Understanding of network drive mappings, managing the file size of content, and use of file transfer software.
  • Proven ability to perform thorough testing and attention to detail to prevent errors in online and digital content while designing an efficient user experience.
  • Ability to maintain consistency on a website(s).
  • Ability to implement and support the procedures required to manage content and produce the required documentation.
  • Experience in and knowledge of creating and editing audio and video files and producing multimedia presentations using software tools, such as Sound Forge, Windows Moviemaker, Microsoft Producer and Avid Liquid.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Professional office working environment requiring telephone usage and the ability to process written documents.
  • Ability to work additional hours and travel throughout the state, including overnight stays, as needed.
  • Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license and demonstrate proof of automobile insurance to operate a personal vehicle on state business, as well as maintain a safe driving record.
