SALARY: $54,563 per year (fillable application requires Adobe Reader or Acrobat)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Payroll/Benefits Manager  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  Under general direction, performs highly responsible tasks related to the processing of payroll, administers state benefit plans, reviews and adjusts payroll and benefits data in automated systems, serves as liaison for group insurance programs and State Retirement Systems, explains and assists employees with benefit plans including, but not limited to, Health, Life, Dental and Vision insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, Commuter Savings Program, Deferred Compensation Plan, State Retirement Systems benefits, creates and maintains procedures manual for unit, prepares correspondence, reports and spreadsheets and performs duties of manager in their absence.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:  Candidates must possess a strong attention to detail.  A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and a minimum of two years of work experience maintaining payroll data on a computerized system is required.  Additional work experience may be substituted for the degree.  Experience working with State of Illinois payroll, retirement and benefits plans, SAMS manual and IRS policies preferred.  Experience creating and maintaining documents, spreadsheets and databases desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to frequently move items weighing up to 10 pounds.  Ability to sit for extended time periods, retrieve payroll/benefits documents, communicate via the telephone and process written documents.
