SALARY: $57,998 per year

HOURS OF WORK: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Chief Internal Auditor  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES : The Information Technology Auditor is responsible for applying specialized knowledge and skills of information technology (IT) systems in order to perform judicial branch IT audits, as well as financial, operational, and compliance audits as directed by the Chief Internal Auditor.  This position also supports the IT needs of Supreme Court Internal Audit. 

As part of conducting audits, the auditor will be responsible for collecting, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting data; preparing working papers and written reports for submission to the Chief Internal Auditor; conducting consulting type engagements at the direction of the Chief Internal Auditor; participating in reviews of the design and internal controls of new IT systems and major modifications of existing IT systems before installation; and performing other duties as assigned.  This position is under the direct supervision of the Chief Internal Auditor.


Minimum:  Bachelor's degree in computer sciences, information systems, accounting, economics, finance, business administration, or another closely related degree.  Information systems auditing experience or equivalent knowledge of auditing techniques, internal auditing standards, and information systems auditing is required.

PreferredAdvanced degree in one of the fields listed above or possessing credentials as a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor, or other related professional designation with Illinois State government experience is preferred.  Two years of experience as an internal auditor or an auditor for a public accounting firm is preferred.

Ability to use proven analytical skills to create written documents based on analysis performed; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in an independent or team environment; knowledge of auditing techniques, governmental and professional auditing standards, and the State's fiscal practices; ability to keep up with new and emerging trends in technology; strong skills in utilizing word processing and spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access); knowledge of various technologies, applications, operating systems, and databases; knowledge or experience in IT security, network administration/infrastructure, or development/programming preferred; knowledge or experience of CAATs and data mining tools preferred; and must possess a valid Illinois driver's license and demonstrate proof of automobile insurance to operate a personal vehicle on state business, as well as maintain a safe driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  This position requires the ability to sit for extended time periods and travel within Illinois, including some overnight stays.  This is a professional office working environment requiring telephone usage, the ability to retrieve files, and process written and electronic documents.
