11th Circuit Associate Judge William Workman to retire July 31 | State of Illinois Office of the Illinois Courts

11th Circuit Associate Judge William Workman to retire July 31

4/8/2025

Associate Judge William G. Workman (Logan County) has provided Chief Judge J. Casey Costigan a letter announcing his retirement effective July 31, 2025.

Judge William G. Workman was appointed Associate Circuit Judge in July 2014 and has served primarily in Logan and McLean Counties since that date. He was reappointed as Associate Circuit Judge in 2015; 2019 and 2023.

A Lincoln Community High School graduate, he attended Lincoln College and Sangamon State University. He graduated from the Southern Illinois University School of Law in 1988. He served as State’s Attorney for Logan County 1996 – 2000, and was an Assistant State’s Attorney for Logan, McLean and Woodford Counties.

Judge Workman is a US Army veteran and has most recently been the presiding judge of the 11th Judicial Circuit Veterans’ Treatment Court – a court dedicated to the rehabilitation of qualifying US service members who become involved in the criminal justice system.

Chief Judge Costigan stated that Judge Workman will be missed for his dedication to his work and people of the 11th Circuit. He has shown an understanding and compassion to veterans who appear before him weekly. His colleagues and court assistants will miss his sense of humor and his “bow tie” sense of style.

The Circuit Court will be immediately contacting the Illinois Supreme Court for authority to fill this vacancy in August 2025.
