Justice Rita B. Garman and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Jason M. Bohm as a Resident Circuit Judge in the Sixth Judicial Circuit.

Mr. Bohm is being appointed to fill the vacancy that will be created when Judge Michael Q. Jones retires on March 2, 2018.

The appointment takes effect on March 19, 2018, and will conclude on December 7, 2020, when the vacancy will be filled by the winner of the November 2020 general election.

“Not only did the screening committee find Jason Bohm exceptionally well qualified for the position of circuit judge, he comes highly recommended by members of the judicial and legal communities who appreciate his strong work ethic, keen intellect, and professionalism,” Justice Garman said. “At each stage of his career, from law school to the United States Attorney’s Office, he has excelled, and I am confident that he will be an excellent judge as well.”

Justice Garman recommended the appointment to the full Court following a review of applicants by a seven-person screening committee consisting of four non-lawyers and three lawyers who reside in the Sixth Judicial Circuit. The nonlawyer members of the committee were Lynn Barnes of Urbana, Grace Mitchell, Bradley Uken, and Mary McGrath, all of Champaign. The lawyer members of the committee were Ed Wagner and William Brinkmann of Champaign, and Regina Haasis of Urbana.

"I am honored to be appointed to the seat held by a judge as respected as Judge Jones," Bohm said. "I want to thank Justice Garman, the Supreme Court, and the Screening Committee. Having them place their trust in me is very humbling. I look forward to serving the people of Champaign County in this role."

Mr. Bohm has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Central District of Illinois, since 2008. Prior to that, Bohm was an associate at Sidley Austin LLP for three years and served for two years as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge  Donald J. Stohr in St. Louis.

Mr. Bohm earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Taylor University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law.

Mr. Bohm and his wife reside in Dewey and have three children.

The Sixth Judicial Circuit is comprised of Champaign, DeWitt, Douglas, Macon, Moultrie and Piatt counties.
