Access to Justice Listening Tour

March 30, 2021

Access to Justice Listening Tour sessions were held virtually on February 24th for Kankakee County and February 25th for Lake County with judges, court staff, and justice partners of each county in attendance. Chief Justice Anne M. Burke was in attendance on behalf of the Illinois Supreme Court for both sessions and Justice Michael Burke attended the Lake County session.

Illinois State Bar Association President Dennis Orsey served as moderator and solicited comments from individuals present on the calls. Local attorneys and judges along with other attendees, including legislators, were able to speak on court issues in their county both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The return of jury trials, with creative social distancing measures, were a large topic of discussion in both sessions.

The Access to Justice Listening Tour continues in the upcoming weeks with Vermilion County on April 7th and Jefferson County on April 22nd.
