Language Access Plans | State of Illinois Office of the Illinois Courts
The Civil Justice Division is overseeing the creation and implementation of Language Access Plans in each of the 24 judicial circuits of the state, based on a Plan template that was approved by the Illinois Supreme Court. Each Plan lays out a framework for providing meaningful language assistance to limited English proficient persons in the circuit. The Language Access Plans will be posted on this page as they are completed by the circuits.
The Plans lay out the following information: the circuit's most frequently requested languages, multilingual notices or signage posted, language identification devices used by the circuit, qualifications or screening procedures used for interpreters, the types of cases that interpreters are provided for, any existing trainings provided to court staff on language access issues and interpreters, and the circuit's goals for the following year.
The LAPs will be expected to be updated annually to reflect changes in court practices and procedures to meet the needs of limited English proficient court users.
