On October 22, 2024, the Twentieth Judicial Circuit celebrated Pro Bono Week with heartfelt recognition of local attorneys whose dedication have significantly expanded access to justice in the community. The event took place at Bennie's Pizza to honor the impactful work of pro bono service.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Joseph Bartylak Pro Bono Award, awarded to Felix Losco for his unwavering commitment to providing free legal assistance in family law. The award was presented by Megan Kinney and Nathan Elwood, representatives from Land of Lincoln Legal Foundation, who shared insights into Losco's remarkable career as a Judge Advocate General for the Air Force and his continued service post-retirement with the legal aid agency.
Chief Judge Andrew Gleeson delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the vital role of pro bono work in making justice a reality for all members of the community. "We must continue to strive for a justice system that is accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances," Gleeson stated.
